I think in CA the Republicans have more or less given up and they basically only advance token candidates. Sometimes two Democrats are up against each other for a spot, and there aren't any R's in sight. The Democrats have achieved such a massive supermajority in the state legislature than it no longer matters who the opposition is because it's just too small to have any impact. Newsom was up again for governor and he didn't even bother to campaign and he didn't have to, his victory was assured. His Republican opponent Brian Dahle didn't really campaign either. The only thing we heard about ad nauseum were the varous money grab propositions that were on the ballot. The recent Newsom recall election was pathetic and looked pretty much like it was rigged. Frankly, I have lost hope for California to ever be any different.

I am far from CA geographically and philosphically. I do understand that there are Conservative rural and semi-rural areas that elect Repubs to the Congress as well as local gov positions, but are nowhere near affecting any State policies or passage of laws.

If the current Rural vs Urban splits continue Nationally then a Majority of States will follow CA into Insanity-Tyranny. This also means the Feral DC Gov will become Even More like CA, WA, OR, CO, NM, WI, MI, IL, PA, MD, NY, NJ, and the rest of New England***(appropriately named!!!)

Prediction: When the STRESSES of Economic Default trigger further Societal Decay, leading to Gov Failures to Function, a Yugoslavian Style Violent or a Soviet Union Style Peaceful Dissolution will occur. The USA will be Regionalized, no longer any pretense of the "United" as We can even see today. This may occur as suddenly as the Soviet Union and Yugoslavian collapses, almost "overnight", in mere weeks, or a couple of months.
